Fixed-fee Self Assessment for UK residents with Indian income. Residence, the 4-year FIG regime and foreign tax credit, from £150. Free review.

What usually needs a decision

01

NRE interest that is tax-free in India

Once you are UK resident, that interest is usually taxable here even though India does not tax it.

02

The 4-year FIG regime is not automatic

New arrivals may be able to claim it, but a claim drops the personal allowance. For modest interest it often costs more than it saves.

03

Indian tax is not always the UK credit

Foreign tax credit is capped. TDS above the treaty rate has to be reclaimed in India, not from HMRC.

Overseas income pricing

A FIG claim, and a single-year Self Assessment with foreign interest and/or one Indian rental, starts from £150. Selling Indian property, multi-year catch-up and a Worldwide Disclosure Facility filing are quoted separately after the free review. India-side work (Indian tax returns, FEMA, TDS refunds) is not included; an Indian chartered accountant should confirm those.

Illustration, not a client file

Someone on a £45,000 UK salary with about £1,200 of NRE interest would usually pay more tax by claiming the 4-year FIG regime, because the claim removes the £12,570 personal allowance. The same person selling an Indian flat with a large pound gain can be in the opposite position. We run both numbers before anyone claims.

Common questions

Do I have to declare Indian income if I live in the UK?

Usually yes, once you are UK resident. Worldwide income and gains are in scope unless a relief such as the 4-year FIG regime applies, and that relief has to be claimed.

How much does an overseas income tax return cost?

From £150 for a FIG claim or a single year covering foreign interest and/or one rental property. Property sales and multi-year disclosures are quoted after a free review.

Is the 20-minute review free?

Yes. Tell us your arrival date and what you hold in India. We say what needs declaring and the fixed fee before any paid work.

Can you deal with an HMRC letter about overseas income?

Yes. Do not ignore the letter, and do not close Indian accounts to tidy up. We can prepare the figures and the reply for a quoted fee.

Do you file the Indian tax return as well?

No. We prepare the UK return and the foreign tax credit. Indian TDS refunds, FEMA and repatriation should be confirmed with an Indian chartered accountant or your bank.
